C.A.R.C. Chemical Agent Resistant Coating

OUR CARC PROCESS

Defense Grade Application Standards

At Colonial Surface Solutions, every Military CARC project follows a controlled, documented process designed to meet strict military specifications while ensuring long-term durability, corrosion resistance, and chemical agent protection.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Each part begins with a heated alkaline wash to remove oils, machining residues, and contaminants. This step ensures a clean surface that promotes proper adhesion and long-term coating performance.

VIRGIN BLAST

We perform a 60/80-mesh grit blast per TT-C-490 to achieve the required surface profile and cleanliness standards. Surface profile is verified to meet military requirements before advancing to the next stage.

CHEMICAL TREATMENT

Following blasting, parts undergo the appropriate chemical treatment based on substrate requirements. This may include alkaline washing, Alodine conversion coating, zinc phosphate, or passivation. All treatments are performed in compliance with TT-C-490 and MIL-DTL-5541.

PRIMER APPLICATION

Primers are applied in accordance with applicable military specifications, including MIL-DTL-53022, MIL-PRF-23377, and MIL-DTL-11414F. Using controlled paint application methods, we carefully monitor film build to ensure precision, durability, and compliance.

CARC TOPCOAT APPLICATION

CARC topcoats are applied in accordance with military standards such as MIL-DTL-24441, MIL-DTL-53039, MIL-DTL-53072, MIL-PRF-14105, and MIL-PRF-22750. Thickness is closely controlled to ensure uniform coverage, long-term performance, and chemical resistance.

CURING PROCESS

Parts can be cured in our inline forced-dry oven system to ensure proper coating performance. Larger components may undergo passive dry curing when required by size or specification.

INSPECTION & QUALITY CONTROL

Every part undergoes rigorous inspection and verification before release. We measure Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) after each coat, verify adhesion and cure. Our Quality Assurance program includes chemical monitoring, environmental monitoring and reporting, and 100% verification of parts prior to shipment.

DEFENSE CARC CAPABILITIES

Quality. Precision. Compliance.

Colonial Surface Solutions is equipped to support both large-scale military programs and medium-capacity production runs.

DEFENSE PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

We are set up to handle large military structures, such as Land System hulls and turrets, within a batch process. We also operate a medium-capacity production line with inline curing ovens, allowing us to efficiently process components of varying sizes. With over 20 years of military painting experience, our team understands the requirements of the defense industry.

ROBUST QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM

Our Defense Division operates under a robust, structured Quality Assurance program designed to meet and exceed military standards.

THIS INCLUDES:

  • Substrate-specific testing evaluations
  • Monthly paint system evaluations
  • Environmental monitoring and reporting
  • Adhesion and cure verification
  • 100% part verification prior to release
  • ISO 9001 Certified since 2015
  • Partnered with an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
  • ITAR Approved
We are committed to documented compliance and consistent performance on every project.
